Budget 2023-2024: Benazir Income Support Program BISP Funding Increased To 400 Billion
Benazir Income Support Program BISP fund increased from $350 billion to $400 billion for fiscal 2023-24. The budget was presented by Finance Minister Ishaq Dar on Friday 9 June 2023.
Under the BISP program, approximately 9,300,000 families receive BISP cash every three months. The quarterly rate of Rs 8750/- is paid to each family under the BISP. The budget allocated by the Government of Pakistan for this purpose in 2023-2024 is Rs.346 trillion.
The fund of the Benazir Scholarship Scheme will be increased from Rs 6 crore to Rs 8300 crore which will be of great benefit for poor students to complete their studies and get quality education. A total of 55,000 crore rupees will be allocated for this purpose.
With this in mind, 92,000 students will receive an undergraduate scholarship under the BISP and an amount of 6,000 million will be allocated for this purpose.
The Benazir Nashonuma program will continue in all districts of the country and the number of children benefiting from this program will increase to 1.5 million. A total of 32 billion funds are earmarked for this.
Specific subsidies for various foods are given to the needy and deserving people of the country. Subsidized foods include rice, flour, ghee, oil, sugar, and other staples. 35 billion are available for this.
